"There is no failure in art. An artist only falls short when they're more focused on perfection and comparison than the journey of creation."Welcome to the Renaissance Secondary Visual Arts Blog! I am so excited that you're here! My name is Elizabeth Rector and I am the Visual Arts teacher at Renaissance Secondary. I am thrilled to start this year and explore art with my students. As the year progresses, you will see some student art and pictures from class. For now, just to fill the space, I have put my own art in so the blog won't look too empty.
This blog will serve a number of purposes throughout the year. It will showcase student work, elaborate on class projects, include articles on art history and current art news, have tips for working with different mediums and be a window into art and life at Renaissance Secondary. A little bit about myself: I have a BS in Strategic Communications (Ad/PR) and a minor in art from Texas Christian University. I am certified to teach Art at every grade level and I am familiar with almost every medium out there. In the past, I have taught 10th grade English, 6th English and math, and elementary art. (If you're like - well, that's weird - I should also mention that I'm a certified English teacher as well). Art and teaching are my two greatest passions and I am beyond excited to lead my students on artistic adventures. I thoroughly enjoy covering a variety of mediums and techniques and teaching art history and architecture as well. There is so much to explore in this beautiful world filled with variety, nature, and beauty, and I believe that art can touch on every subject in school and in life. Things I can both do and teach include: watercolors, woodburning, ceramics, sculpture (plaster/clay/Sculpie), acrylic painting, oil painting, drawing/sketching, graphic design (Photoshop & InDesign), photography, Prismacolor colored pencils, markers, cross-stitching, jewelry making and charcoal. Thank you so much for visiting the blog and be sure to come again! Sincerely, Liz Rector |
